Tootsie Roll Drive

Every September and October, the Guilford Knights of Columbus supports the local community by holding its Tootsie Roll Drive. This nationwide drive involving all K of C Councils is specifically designed to benefit citizens with intellectual disabilities. In Guilford, the K of C has chosen to support the SARAH Foundation located on 246 Goose Lane in Guilford. SARAH provides programs and services for children and adults with disabilities who live in Connecticut.

During a typical Tootsie Roll Drive, council volunteers give out tootsie rolls for free in front of local businesses for an entire weekend. Passerbys are greeted, given a tootsie roll and encouraged to donate to SARAH, but no donation is required. In addition, volunteers stand by the exit doors at St. George Church after all masses for a weekend, again giving out free tootsie rolls.

In addition to supporting SARAH, our drive is good for the public relations of our council. The Tootsie Roll Drive publicizes the good work that this council does and continues to do throughout the year in the local community.
